Les Tourelles de Longueille
Les Tourelles starts with a beautiful fresh, young looking deep ruby red color and long, viscous legs running down the sides of the glass. The nose is fairly complex with hints of blackberries, licorice and blueberries. Surprisingly, there is a whiff of fresh green apples as well; probably just an offshoot of the nice acidity we encounter later on. On the palate we get a medium to full bodied wine with gobs of fresh fruit, sweet blackberries and cassis with a a nice backbone consisting of silky tannins and the aforementioned balanced acidity. There is none of that fruit-bomby excessive sweetness here: It is just good balanced fruit. If there is any part of this package that is missing, it's in the finish, which, though long, is lacking in complexity and shows mostly the tannic backbone, although with tannins this sweet, time should make this even more delicious.
