Penfolds Thomas Hyland Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
The Penfolds Thomas Hyland red wines, comprising a shiraz and a cabernet sauvignon, are house style wines based on multi-regional fruit. These are fresh, early-drinking wines with abundant richness and chocolaty tannins. The Thomas Hyland Cabernet Sauvignon is a shining example of the benefits of multi-regional blending. Cabernet sauvignon from the southeast of South Australia, including Coonawarra, often features prominently, bringing perfume and generosity of flavour on the palate; while the addition of ripe, powerful McLaren Vale fruit and elegantly proportioned Robe cabernet enhance the overall style. The classic varietal elements of ripe blackcurrant/cedar aromas and fine-grained tannins are also present, to produce a wine with a firm, yet supple structure, subtle oak character and rich depth. While Penfolds Thomas Hyland Cabernet Sauvignon is made for relatively early drinking, the overall fruit concentration and firm tannin structure will allow the wine to cellar for the medium term.
